Tenure Isn’t Architecture

Fifty years of presence didn’t create a protection system.

The Alamo Rangers have watched over the site since 1975. That didn’t transfer.

They knew the grounds. They knew the visitors. Some had given decades.

DPS assumed full law enforcement and security operations. The transition followed a state law that shifted oversight to a newly created commission.

Familiarity wasn’t a factor. Institutional architecture was.

This is a pattern most family office and estate principals already recognize at some level. The person who has always handled it isn’t the same as a system designed to handle it. At a certain scale, that distinction becomes consequential.

Personnel from Highway Patrol, Criminal Investigations, and Homeland Security are now stationed around the clock. Multiple layers. Connected accountability. No single point of dependency.

Duration doesn’t produce that. Design does.

Below a certain complexity threshold, a trusted individual is sufficient. Past it, the absence of integrated infrastructure becomes the exposure, regardless of tenure, relationship, or intent.

This is typically addressed before the gap surfaces.
